Whippet are hunting dogs. They are sighthounds. Sighthounds are fairly fast, and have a very good vision compared to other breeds.

Whippet has been included in International Federation of Kennel Clubs in their dog breed database as #162 in section «short-haired sighthounds» (10.3) in the group «sighthounds» (registered 2007-03-06). Also recognized by the Canadian Kennel as «hounds».
