Classification: American Kennel Club places the breed in the group «sporting dogs». United Kennel Club files the breed in the category «gun dog». Weimaraner has been catalogued with Fédération Cynologique Internationale and their list of dog breeds as #99 in section «continental pointers» (7.1) in the group «pointing dogs» (registered 1990-02-27). Also recognized by the Canadian Kennel as «sporting dogs».
