Vizsla are dogs used for hunting. Pointers are good bird dogs and hunting dogs. Pointers usually assists in the pursuit by signaling to the hunter where the prey is located, as well as to retrieve the prey when shot.

The vizsla comes across as a very wise breed. The dog thrives best when doing tasks that involve mental challenges.

Vizslas sheds, but less than many other breeds. Easy grooming is one of several advantages of this breed.

The vizsla dog should be a pleasure to to train , but individual differences in the breed is expected. This type of dog are often focused in what it is doing, and easy to deal with. A breed thrive in the woods, or on long air trips and is often a good companion. Vizslas were initially bred for pointing, retrieving and hunting upland game and waterfowl, falconry. The breed are also being called hungarian short-haired pointing dog, rövidszörü magyar vizsla.

Vizsla classification: American Kennel Club places this type of dog in the group «sporting dogs». United Kennel Club files this type of dog in the category «gun dog». Vizsla has been catalogued with International Federation of Kennel Clubs and their list of dog breeds as #57 in section «continental pointers» (7.1) in the group «pointing dogs» (registered 2000-04-06). Also recognized by the Canadian Kennel as «sporting dogs».
