This breed are characterized by high intelligence in relation to many other dog breeds. Mental exercise should therefore be included in the daily activities.

Skye Terriers sheds, but less than many other breeds. Daily grooming of the coat contributes to the dog's well-being.

Skye Terriers are often referred two as a dog for the more experienced, and some owners claim they can be difficult to train with. The breed are often focused in what it is doing, and easy to deal with. Although there are breeds that are characterized as even more energetic, this is still a breed that requires his daily walks. The breed appreciate physical activity, but are not as demanding as many other breeds.

Some dogs can be a bit reserved and skeptical strangers, but there exists considerable variation within the breed. Although aggression toward other dogs is not characteristic of the breed, such individual characteristics occur. The breed is considered as one of the more kid-friendly dog breeds, but do not forget: No dogs should never leave small children alone with dogs, regardless of breed or size. Children-friendly dogs may be a myth more than anything else, all dogs are different! As distant descendants of the wolf this breed still have some strong instincts. Puppies tend to play bite, and this can increase lung adulthood if one ignores the problem.

This is a robust dog that can tolerate cold and low temperatures nice and thrive winter and summer. Like fun and games? It also makes these dogs! Whlie it is possible to keep these dogs in an apartment, it is not the ideal for this breed.

Diseases and disorders: The health problems for skye terriers differs individually and does not only depend on the breed. Associated problems are hypothyroidism, different illnesses in canines and other disorders and diseases in dogs.

Other facts about the dog: The skye terrier were first bred in Scotland. The breed is a relatively highly popular and there is still someone who advertises puppies for sale. Skye Terriers were initially bred for hunting and overtaking small ground game.

Grouping of skye terrier: American Kennel Club places the breed in the group «terriers». United Kennel Club files the breed in the category «terrier». Skye Terrier have been approved by FCI and their dog breed list as #75 in section «Small Terriers» (3.2) in the group «terriers» (registered 1987-06-24). Also recognized by the Canadian Kennel as «terriers».
