Saluki are hunting hounds. They are sighthounds. Albeit today sighthounds are used for much else too, and are very popular as companion dogs.

This type of breed are characterized by high intelligence if we compare to many other breeds. Mental exercise should therefore be included in the daily activities.

Salukis sheds, but less than many other breeds. Easy care of the coat is one of several advantages of this breed.

Salukis are often referred two as a dog for the more experienced, and some owners claim they can be hard to exercise with. Saluki is a focused breed, and responds well to dog training. A breed thrive in the woods, or on long air trips and is often a good companion. The breed have a great need for physical activity, it will be best if the person responsible for the dog are active as well.

Some dogs can be a bit reserved and skeptical non-family members, but there exists considerable variation within the breed. They are usually affectionate with other dogs. The breed is considered child friendly but generalization here can be adversely. Small children and dogs should never be left alone together! There is no such thing as a children-friendly dog, adult supervision is always recommended. Although wolves, dogs' close relative, in contrast to this type of breed, there are still similarities. Certain breeds tend to bite and nip, but saluki is not known for this.

Some would argue that barks less than other breeds, albeit some owners may find this to be a bogus claim. The breed is not suited to extreme cold, but can still be kept in colder regions if they wear extra clothing on cold days. Like fun and games? It also makes these dogs! Some saluki are known to run away from their owners as soon as they get the opportunity.

The breed's appearance: A saluki is a interesting race medium-length coat, and a charming expression.

Health: The health problems for salukis varies and does not only depend on the breed. Reported health issues can include hypothyroidism, otherwise common disorders and other disorders and diseases in dogs.

Good to know about the breed: The saluki comes from Middle East. The price of a saluki puppy varies, but if it is a good pedigree dog, the price can be as much as 2500, in some cases even more. Saluki puppies can be purchased online, but the selection of puppies is not always the best. Salukis were initially bred for hunting gazelle. Other names for the breed is tazi hound, tanji, persian greayhound, persian sighthound.

Saluki kennel clubs: American Kennel Club places the breed in the group «hounds». United Kennel Club files the breed in the category «sighthound & pariah». Saluki has been included in Fédération Cynologique Internationale in their dog breed database as #269 in section «fringed long-haired sighthounds» (10.1) in the group «sighthounds» (registered 2000-10-25). Also recognized by the Canadian Kennel as «hounds».
