This breed are characterized by high intelligence if we compare to many other dog breeds. Mental exercise should therefore be included in the daily activities.

Saint Bernards sheds, and like most other breeds need regular grooming. Easy care of the coat is one of several advantages of this breed.

The saint bernard dog should be a pleasure to to exercise with, but individual differences in the breed is expected. The dog breed are often focused in what it is doing, and easy to deal with. Like all dogs, dogs of this breed will need their daily walks. The dog breed appreciate physical activity, but are not as demanding as many other breeds.

This dog breed is by nature very loving with strangers, but large variations occur between dogs anyway. They are usually loving with other dogs. The dog breed is considered as one of the more kid-friendly dog breeds, but do not forget: Small children and dogs should never be left alone together! There is no such thing as a children-friendly dog, adult supervision is always recommended. Although this breed can be gentle, one should never forget that they are animals after all. Puppies tend to play bite, and this can increase lung adulthood if one ignores the problem. It has been argued that they drool much, so avoid this breed if you think this may be a problem (a human problem that is, the dogs are fine!).

Saint Bernards are very well suited to the climate in slightly cooler regions, but is not as well suited to warmer climates. This hardy winter dog can handle low temperatures without any problem.

The breed's appearance: A saint bernard is a one of the larger dog breeds, medium-length coat, with a robust physique, midsized hanging ears, very long legs, hanging tail, relatively short muzzle, and the world's most amazing breed in many people's eyes.

Health: The health problems for saint bernards varies and does not only depend on the breed. Health problems that may occur observed are hip dysplasia, Skin problems, eyelid problems, bloat, heart disease, hypothyroidism, otherwise common disorders and other disorders and diseases in dogs.

Nice to know about the dog breed: The saint bernard were first bred in Switzerland. Life expectancy will vary, but anything from 8 to 10 years is possible. The dog breed is highly popular and easy to find in classified ads and even in animal shops. Saint Bernards were initially bred for rescue operations in mountains and harsh climates, hauling dog, and as companion and family dog. The breed are also being called st.bernhardshund, bernhardiner, saint bernard dog, alpine mastiff, talhund, bauernhund.

Saint Bernard kennel clubs: American Kennel Club places the dog breed in the group «working dogs». United Kennel Club files the dog breed in the category «guardian dog». Saint Bernard have been approved by Fédération Cynologique Internationale and their dog breed list as #61 in section «molossoid dogs» (2.2) in the group «pinscher and schnauzer, molossoid dogs, swiss mountain and cattle breeds» (registered 2003-10-29). Also recognized by the Canadian Kennel as «working dog breeds».
