This dog breed are characterized by high intelligence compared to many other dog breeds. Mental exercise should therefore be included in the daily activities.

Leonbergers sheds, and caring and grooming of the coat should be done regularly. Although frequent grooming is not strictly necessary, it contributes to the dog's overall well-being and prosperity.

Leonbergers are often referred two as a dog for the more experienced, and some owners claim they can be extensive to train . Leonberger is a focused type of breed, and responds well to 0. Good to know about leonberger: The leonberger originates from Germany. The breed is a relatively sought after and there is still someone who advertises puppies for sale. Leonbergers were initially bred for drafting, mountaineer, companion, farm dog, and watchdog.

Leonberger group: American Kennel Club places the breed in the group «miscellaneous class». United Kennel Club files the breed in the category «guardian dog». Leonberger is part of International Federation of Kennel Clubs and their registry of breeds as #145 in section «molossoid dogs» (2.2) in the group «pinscher and schnauzer, molossoid dogs, swiss mountain and cattle breeds» (registered 1996-01-04). Also recognized by the Canadian Kennel as «working dog breeds».
