Gordon Setter are a hunting breed. Setters are bird dogs and is widely used as hunting dogs. They are used for hunting where they assist in locating prey, as well as bringing prey back to the hunter.

This dog breed are characterized by high intelligence compared to many other breeds. Mental exercise should therefore be included in the daily activities.

Gordon Setters sheds, but less than many other breeds. Although frequent grooming is not strictly necessary, it contributes to the dog's overall well-being and prosperity.

Gordon Setters respond well to obedience training, which is why they are descirbed as a breed type which is easy to deal with (albeit all dogs are different). The dog breed are often focused in what it is doing, and easy to deal with. Energy and energy is synonymous with this dog breed , and they will always be with you for a walk in fresh air. The dog breed have a great need for exercise, it will be best if the person responsible for the dog are active as well.

Health: The health problems for gordon setters differs from dog to dog and also depends on the breeder. Well-known health problems include hip dysplasia, hypothyroidism, different illnesses in canines and other health problems in dogs.

The dog breed is a relatively popular and there is still someone who advertises puppies for sale. Gordon Setters were initially bred for hunt game birds.

Grouping: American Kennel Club places the dog breed in the group «sporting dogs». United Kennel Club files the dog breed in the category «gun dog». Gordon Setter has been included in FCI in their dog breed database as #6 in section «continental pointers» (7.1) in the group «pointing dogs» (registered 1987-06-14). Also recognized by the Canadian Kennel as «sporting dogs».
