Even more about the dog: The giant schnauzer were first bred in Germany. Life expectancy will vary, but anything from 12 to 15 years is normal. The breed is a relatively highly popular and there is still someone who advertises puppies for sale. Giant Schnauzers were initially bred for herding cattle and various services, and for companionship. This type of breed have other names as well: riesenschnauzer.

Giant Schnauzer group: American Kennel Club places the breed in the group «working dogs». United Kennel Club files the breed in the category «guardian dog». Giant Schnauzer have been approved by Fédération Cynologique Internationale and their dog breed list as #181 in section «pinscher and schnauzer breeds» (2.1) in the group «pinscher and schnauzer, molossoid dogs, swiss mountain and cattle breeds» (registered 2007-03-06).
