Chow Chow are spitz dogs. Spitz breeds belong to the Arctic type of dogs. Chow Chows are good as working dogs and can be used as a guard dog. It is therefore as guardian of the home or property.

Chow Chows sheds, but less than many other breeds. Although frequent care of the coat is not strictly necessary, it contributes to the dog's overall well-being and prosperity.

The price of a chow chow puppy varies, but 3500 not an unusual price for a puppy of this breed. The dog breed is highly popular and easy to find in classified ads and even in animal shops. Chow Chows were initially bred for scaring away unvanted visitors, herding, hunting, protection, cart pulling, coat used for clothing in China. This dog breed have other names as well: chow.

Approved kennel clubs: American Kennel Club places the dog breed in the group «non-sporting breeds». United Kennel Club files the dog breed in the category «northern breed». Chow Chow have been approved by International Federation of Kennel Clubs and their dog breed list as #205 in section «Asian spitz» (5.5) in the group «spitz» (registered 1987-06-24). Also recognized by the Canadian Kennel as «non-sporting dogs».
