Afghan Hound are hunting dogs. They are sighthounds. Sighthounds are pretty fast, and have a very good vision in relation to other dog breeds.

Afghan Hounds sheds, but less than many other breeds. Daily grooming of the coat contributes to the dog's well-being.

Afghan Hounds are often referred two as a dog for the more experienced, and some owners claim they can be challenging to train with. This dog breed are often focused in what it is doing, and easy to deal with. Although there are breeds that are characterized as even more energetic, this is still a breed that requires his daily walks. This dog breed have a great need for training, it will be best if the person responsible for the dog are active as well.

More about the dog: The afghan hound originates from Afghanistan. Expected age will vary, but anything from 14 to 16 years is within the norm. Litter varies from 7 to 15 puppies. This dog breed is a comparatively sought after and there is still someone who advertises puppies for sale. Afghan Hounds were initially bred for the Egyptian royalty, and hunting in hilly terrain.

Afghan Hound kennel clubs: American Kennel Club places this dog breed in the group «hounds». United Kennel Club files this dog breed in the category «sighthound & pariah». Afghan Hound is part of F.C.I. and their registry of breeds as #228 in section «fringed long-haired sighthounds» (10.1) in the group «sighthounds» (registered 2008-11-04). Also recognized by the Canadian Kennel as «hounds».
